Interaction Analysis
If the observer is at a distance >1,7 m the hermit crab won’t show itself, so the beach is empty and we can see just the motion of the waves represented by a gradual brightness of 2 white LEDs. The interaction starts when the “crabby” (the proximity sensor) capture movement of the person between 1,7 m an 3m from the object: it will start to move and 2 LEDs coloured in blue will be light on, representing the water.

If the person keep moving closer to the object, when they’re between 1,3 m and 1 m from the crab, it will start to move faster and another LED will turn on in blue (3 LEDs), as if it is getting closer to the water. When the distance is between 1 m and 0,6 m, the LED strips increase by two (5 LEDs)and the hermit crab start to move even faster.

When the distance is >0,6 m all the LED stripes will light on, as if the crab dove into the sea and it will start to “swim” into it.

Persona
The idea is to show how to empathize and behave with with small animals. The first inputs for the design were the utilization of the object, that is used as a biological sponge, and the first environment that comes to mind thinking about sponges: the sea. Starting from this point, and after a careful research, it was found out that some crabs, in particular hermit-crab, use the sponge's body as protection instead of the shell, living in it. So, it was decided to create an interaction with this little animal, making it fun and playful.
